Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
