Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the closing table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While betting on web poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He often competes in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the min takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I think tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world could be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be seen betting on web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in cash games?
