Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While participating in web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen usually buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.

Buying in for the min takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the best players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world may be players you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?
